Kahlil Gibran: A Guide for Our Times
This exhibition culminates a peacebuilding tour by CARAVAN, an international arts initiative that originated in Cairo and is now based in Chicago. It features 35 acclaimed contemporary artists from the Middle East, all inspired by the universal message of peace and harmony found in Kahlil Gibran's poetry, writing and art, especially in his best-selling book The Prophet, which celebrates its 95th publishing anniversary this year. The exhibition visually highlights how the Lebanon-born poet-artist, who immigrated from Lebanon to the US in the late 1800s and became a towering figure in East-West literature, can be a guide for our times, too, for peace, harmony and the building of bridges among the cultures of the Middle East and West. Reflecting the universal spiritual contribution that Gibran has made and continues to make to the world, the exhibition shows Gibran's voice as timeless, focusing on the themes that unite peoples and religions.
