After Hope: Videos of Resistance

  • through July 24, 2021
  • Asian Art Museum
This exhibition explores the role of hope in contemporary art and activism through an eclectic selection of more than 50 short videos from across Asia and the Asian diaspora as well as a series of workshops and discussions and an online platform. The result is a six-hour looping chronicle of hope that is comprehensive and exploratory in nature, not a product of a single narrative.
"Spring," by Gulnara Kasmalieva and Muratbek Djumaliev, video, 12:32. The film explores the idea of hope amid Kyrgyz migrants who move into hazardous areas of landfills and open burning on the outskirts of Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan.
