Ahmet Öǧüt: No poem loves its poet: Solo Show

  • through October 11, 2020
  • Yarat Contemporary Art Space, Baku, Azerbaijan
Amsterdam-based Kurdish artist Ahmet Öǧüt presents a solo exhibition featuring two new, site-responsive commissions utilizing video and scuplture, respectively titled Hiçbir şiir, şairini sevmez (No poem loves its poet) and Living Beings, Squatting Institutions. Both refer to the physical and societal structures imposed by mankind throughout history that divide living beings and cultures, and his work reminds us that these structures are ultimately permeable, malleable states.

The video installation Hiçbir şiir, şairini sevmez (No poem loves its poet) takes its title from a piece of Turkic graffiti the artist encountered during a visit to Sovetsky, a historic neighborhood in Baku that is now under demolition.
