Calligraphy: A New Addition to the Permanent Galleries

A new case demonstrates the versatility of Islamic calligraphy and its use in ceremonial and secular objects. Among others, the stunning objects include a blue pot from 12th-century Kashan, Persia, and an official seal from the court of 17th-century Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan of India. Made from materials including brass, bronze, ceramic, silver, wood, bone and steel, they originate from countries including Turkey, India and Pakistan.
