Painting Museum: Make an Island for Yourself

  • through May 30, 2021
  • Museum of Azerbaijani Painting, Baku
This exhibition includes works created between the late 1980s and early 1990s by 21 Azerbaijani artists of different generations who have lived through the collapse of the Soviet Union. Themes of loneliness and solitude as a spiritual salvation during times of crisis fill the exhibition and lend themselves to its title, a borrowing from the 1991 poem of the same name by Aydin Efendi. Together, the works echo the intensity of both the image and the inner message, a fusion symbolic of the period to which the exhibition is dedicated.
