Radical Revisionists: Contemporary African Artists Confronting Past and Present

  • through May 16, 2020
  • Moody Center for the Arts, Rice University, Houston
In this exhibit, artists from diverse parts of Africa and its diaspora challenge Eurocentric tropes of race, representation and colonial narratives. They address the erasures of histories and the ways in which artists reinterpret familiar themes through lenses that are both contemporary and Afrocentric. Photography, mixed media, virtual reality, sculpture and a site-specific installation all illuminate the ways outside interventions, over centuries, have deeply affected both land and peoples.
