Sarah Almehairi: Between

  • September 30, 2019 through November 3, 2019
  • Carbon 12 Gallery, Abu Dhabi
Grids. Identity. Systems. Stories. These are the centers of gravity in the debut solo show of Abu Dhabi-born Almehairi. Her work is not just about what it means to be carving out an identity in a hyper-global world—it is her identity, readable along the walls like the lines of a poem. Lines and layers are used throughout her pieces as a means of exploring clarity and organization or collected information from her childhood memories. Through the process, moments unfold, repositioning takes place, order is imposed and language asserts structure. These elements towards telling a story are not so explicit, it investigates the push and pull of concealing and revealing. Almehairi is interested in how her works create a visual poetry, engaging with form, materiality and color; piecing together an innovative language.
