Hikāyāt (stories) حکايات

This exhibition combines handcrafted photogravure prints by Spain-based artist Tariq Dajani with Arabic poetry by Darwish, Qasim, Rumi and Gibran. Dajani uses old family photographs and other material to create poetic stories and ideas that reflect his personal feelings and thoughts as well as his search for spiritual and earthly identity. Dark and evocative, his images hint of separation, pain and loss; at the same time, the depth of emotion kindles hope, even optimism. The photogravure printing is based on a technology from the 1870s in which a photographic image is etched onto a metal plate, inked and wiped by hand before being pulled though a traditional etching press, leaving a textured feel, depth and quality unlike any other photographic print form.
