Paper Gardens: Art, Botany and Empire examines how art and science intersected in the Indian subcontinent during the 18th and 19th centuries, when botanical study flourished under British rule. Featuring more than 100 detailed plant illustrations created by local artists in collaboration with European botanists, the exhibition shows how living plants were transformed into scientific records that shaped modern botany. It also highlights the global circulation of knowledge and the often overlooked contributions of the artists, gardeners and collectors behind these works.
