Trans-Cultural Relations, Global Biographies—Islamic Art?
Pergamonmuseum, Berlin,Berlin,Germany
Selected artifacts currently on display in the Museum für Islamische Kunst at the Pergamonmuseum illustrate how diverse objects have migrated across continents and how, on closer inspection, shared visual motifs, forms and craft techniques reveal networks of references to other cultures that one might not at once associate with "Islamic art" today. The display thereby questions the notions of rigidly defined cultural boundaries.
