Karim Shamsi-Basha

Karim Shamsi-Basha left Damascus for the United States in 1984 and is now a writer and photojournalist in Alabama. He co-wrote The Cat Man of Aleppo, a 2021 Caldecott Honor book. His other books include The Beauty Box, Home Sweet Home Alabama, Marriage Advice from a Divorced Guy and Shelter from the Storm, and his essay appears in Alabama Christmas, an anthology that also collects work by Helen Keller and Truman Capote. Karim's writing and photography have appeared in AramcoWorld, National Geographic Traveler, People, Southern Living and The New York Times.
