Andrew Nemr fell in love with dance early in life. Dance and improvisation have had a profound effect on his spiritual life. In this lesson, students explore how dance and storytelling open up opportunities for communication among people.

Summary: Watch a video of Andrew Nemr describing how he became interested in tap dancing and explaining his philosophy of life. Then discuss the main points of the video and Andrew’s philosophy of life and art.

Then engage in an “inside/outside discussion activity” to expand this discussion and gain a broader understanding of Andrew Nemr and his philosophy of life. Finally, write a paragraph on what you’ve learned from the activity. Alternatively, analyze the passage and write a paragraph on what the passage means.

Summary: Play the role of a magazine editor. Look at several photographs from the article and select one. Then formulate a caption for the photo and create a gesture drawing to accentuate the action and energy of the photograph.
